Its been almost two months since my last Runner Chick post. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been running – I have – but definitely not as much as I need to for an October 7 marathon. It could be the heat and humidity, it could be that I’m busy, or maybe my body is just tired.
I need to find the motivation to cross the finish line.
The picture to the left is me finishing my first marathon in October 2014. The best thing about a first marathon is there are no expectations except to cross the finish line. At least that was my experience. Just plug away and chip down at that big distance. That year I did it on the verge of a chest cold. The weeks after I coughed like I’d never stop – but I had run a marathon.
I took a year off from marathon training and didn’t run my second until October 2016. Then another in October 2017. I’m on the schedule for one in October 2018. I just couldn’t help myself signing up. But now I’m regretting it. Maybe my body needs a break. Or I need to find the motivation.
Like I said, the weather isn’t helping. I’m not a hot and humid runner. And, the summer schedule isn’t helping either. Even though my kids are older, I can’t just go for a two hour run mid-morning and leave them. I have woken up at 5:15-5:30 a couple days a week for some runs but now its darker still at that time and I really don’t love 6 AM runs.
So- I’m holding out till September – kids will be back to school, maybe the weather is cooler, and I’ll find the motivation to hang on and chip away at the finish line. Until then – I’ll be over here foam rolling and stretching between long runs…
