Rest days are the hardest – especially when you have the itch to get out there and run. You know its bad when you drive through town and see another person running and you’re jealous of the fun they are having.

But you need to take them!

Last week I ran or worked out Monday – Saturday. I shouldn’t have run Saturday but a friend was running so I thought I’d join her. But – it was hot, humid and sunny even at 7 AM. My planned long run turned into half of what I wanted to accomplish. Today, Sunday, its PERFECT for running. Overcast, slightly drizzly and low 60s. My kind of day. And I’m not running. I know I’d have fun. But, in the long run, I need to think about my goals. Last week my hip started to hurt a bit and I don’t need to push it right now. Rest and recovery are key to making sure you accomplish your goals. May and June are typically my recovery time of the year before gearing up for my fall marathon training.

So, I’m taking a rest day. As much as I don’t want to! Back at it tomorrow with Murph at Crossfit for Memorial Day (mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats, mile run). I’ll be modifying it with the pull ups and push ups… but the running… I can’t wait!
