Even with the world closed because of this pandemic, I’m still here and running though it looks different than expected. Two weeks ago my only thoughts on my long run were how to slow down since I was running pretty fast. Lots of spring races are cancelled and postponed now. But, the runners I know keep going. I think we are poised to adjust more quickly to a new normal because we do it anyway in our running. Just think about the months of training a runner puts in preparing for a marathon, just to either get sick or hurt right before the race. The situation changed and you need to adjust your goal, maybe you don’t hit that PR for time, the new goal might be to just finish the race. My situation is different this weekend than it was weeks ago, so I’m adjusting. I may not have done all the workouts on my half-marathon training calendar, but I got out and kept moving. This is not the time to be hard on myself or stress about one of the things that brings me stress relief. Who knows if I’ll run my half-marathon race later this spring – but I do know that I can keep adjusting and eventually all the pieces will fall in place.
